Hands-on Math for Preschool: The Letter "I"

Nosotros've been doing a lot of hands-on math for preschool at home. Since we're learning most the Letter I, we did math activities related to ice cream, insects, and inches!
ane – Counting, Number Recognition – Water ice Cream Count & Match
This was a simple file binder game to practice counting and labeling items upwards to 10. My Two but worked on the #ane-five page. He cannot count items by 3 correctly, only he had fun doing it with me. My Iv breezed through it. And so maybe this is an activeness best washed by a three-year-old. 2- Colors, Number Recognition – Buggy Board Game
All my kids had fun with this unproblematic lath game. It was designed with my Ii in listen, and it was just the right length for his attention bridge. He moved to spaces by cartoon colored cards. So he read the number that he landed on. I've also made a blank re-create of the board so that you can program it with any numbers you lot want (or math facts for older kids!). 3 – Counting, Improver – Bugs in a Jar
This was for my Iv and 5 to complete together. They counted plastic insects and wrote number sentences to show how many bugs were in and out of the jar. View my post and get a copy of the mat and worksheet here.
4 -Matching – Insect Shadow Match
This was fun and merely right for my Two. I printed a ready of bugs and their shadows for him to friction match. This was likewise a great chance to talk almost which bugs were insects and which were not.
5 – Patterns – Insect Patterns
We printed lots of these insects to practice making patterns. I tried to help my Two make basic ABAB patterns, but he wasn't getting it. So my 4 worked on information technology instead and was surprised at how many patterns he could figure out and extend. half dozen – Measurement – How long is an inch? (measurement hunt)
This was fun for usa – my Four and Five went on a measurement chase to find objects that were the aforementioned length, longer, or shorter than an inch. This really helped my Four with the concept of linear measurement. You lot can read more than about what we did here.
seven – Counting, Number Recognition, Ordering, One-to-1 Correspondence – Water ice Cream Number Learning Action
My 4 opted out of this one, and then information technology was a great opportunity to focus on basic counting with my Two. I gave him the 3 cones and he helped me identify the numbers. He knew the number "ane." For the other two he had to count the dots to get the number correct. Together nosotros put the water ice cream cones in order. Then he was able to count and glue ice cream scoops to each cone. This was a nice visual for us to refer back to and gave him extra practice recognizing the numbers 1-three.
